Teckomatorp’s station is getting a refresh this September. Over three weeks, Finnish artist Tuomas Korkalo will paint two new murals on the station building (3 × 3.6 m each). The current pieces — the swans facing the tracks and the steam train with “Byaloppis” — have faded over time. We’re replacing them with works that respond to the station’s character and give the village a clearer visual identity.
Why are we doing this? Public art is something everyone shares, every day. It can spark curiosity, build pride, and make waiting for the train a little more enjoyable. Tuomas works with colour, geometry, and spatial illusions — playful yet precise. The sketches are ready and the colour choices draw from the station and the square around it.

The murals at the station are part of a bigger picture. Tapper-Popermajer has been based in the station building for nearly 20 years. When we took over the property in 2006, we could finally renovate long-term and build a place where art and meetings can thrive. Under the name Kulturzon, we host exhibitions, booked viewings, and events for 5–50 people — from pensioners’ associations and railway enthusiasts to companies and groups interested in art or history. We often serve home-cooked food from the station’s kitchen.
The gallery works closely with around twenty internationally active artists and present works digitally via Artsy. This allows us to stay rooted in Teckomatorp while reaching audiences and collectors far beyond Sweden. Tuomas Korkalo’s new murals are both a greeting to everyone passing through the station and a clear part of our programme — contemporary art that’s open to all.
