ASPENCROW (b. 1987) works across hyperreal sculpture and conceptual objects. The practice is a strategic “game of the mind,” probing how perception, value, and desire are staged—and how small shifts in surface, scale, or context recode what we see.
Precision drives the work. Every decision—structure, finish, proportion—is purposeful, whether in a meticulously rendered figure or a concept-led object. Trained in painting realism, the artist carries painterly attention to light, surface, and viewpoint into three-dimensional form. Satire and irony are active tools. Deliberate scuffs, erosion, and omissions unsettle expectations of polish and completeness, asking whether meaning sits in the flawless surface or in what’s withheld.
A restrained, often monochrome palette and a preference for monumental scale sharpen presence and silhouette. Pop informed, hyperreal motifs—such as inflatable elements—operate as lures, heightening the tension between authenticity and artifice. Across series, ASPENCROW pairs technical rigour with psychological charge to create immediate, collectible works that reward close looking.
The Lab Mouse sculptures
Over the years, the artist has refined his practice. Within this framework, the glove puppet becomes an expression of the liberated subconscious. This choice connects to a personal memory—his school years, performing in a puppet theatre—when he first discovered creative freedom. Through this figure, the artist expands his practice, exploring themes of solitude, isolation, curiosity, and self-reflection.
These sculptures are made to order, with a production time of approximately three weeks. They will be shipped directly to you from the artist’s studio, with a certificate signed by the artist, vacuum-wrapped, and carefully packed in a sturdy transport box.
